4 Ricercars by Vinco Jelić - play along
Say hello to the overlooked Croatian composer Vinco (Vincenz) Jelić (Jelich / Jelicich) 1596-1636
Contained within his collection "Parnassia militia concertuum" (Strasbourg 1622) there are four instrumental ricercars for cornett and trombone with continuo accompaniment and these pieces are made available for us today by the generosity of Simon Hanks, working in the Dordogne, France. Thankyou to Simon for the top instrumental part and for the synthesised realisation to play along with. Working away during the Covid-19 lockdown, Simon kindly says...
"During my confinement here, I have been working on a “music minus one” style accompaniment to the Vinco Jelic Ricercars for cornett, trombone and organ, and I was wondering whether you’d like to put them on your website for stranded Cornett players to play along with."
So, if you are feeling stranded and in need of some uplift, then I commend these pieces to you. Give them a shot. What's not to like?!
Vinco Jelić was born in what is now known as Rijeka, he was taught by Ferrabosco in Graz and spent the bulk of his working life in Saverne, Alsace where he combined professional music with the duties of vicar. With curious irony, given the timing of this page's publication (April 2020), it has been suggested that he may have died the victim of an epidemic in his city.
